Holocaust Boxcar and POW Exhibit | Judy Baron Art Gallery

“We decided to do this because we have a World War II museum, which is not complete without this story. It was a terrible event that needs to be remembered so it doesn’t happen again. To us, it means educating the future and keeping those stories alive.”

— Diane Fagen

The boxcar is original and untouched — just preserved.

During World War II, an estimated 4,000,000 prisoners were transported by railroad to labor, concentration, and extermination camps. Jews, other “undesirables,” and prisoners of war were forced into repurposed cattle and freight cars. Up to 200 people were packed inside each car. No food or water was given. Only a small, barred window provided air.

Fagen Fighters WWII Museum’s authentic German boxcar was manufactured in 1899 and was used on the German railroad until 1954. The boxcar was abandoned at an old railroad depot until put on display at a museum in Georgenthal, Germany.

4,000,000

“A lot of people don’t believe what really happened. But it is. I was there and that is what Germans did — the Nazis. It is true. It is not make believe at all. It is a true story.”

— Aino Lavoi (Holocaust Survivor)
